Taj Mahal: The Jewel of Mughal Architecture
The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”. The construction was started in 1631 and completed in 1653.
Symbol of Eternal Love
The Taj Mahal has become an iconic monument of the country and its architecture has been widely studied by architects across the world. It is considered a symbol of eternal love and one of the wonders of the world.
Mumtaz was married to Shah Jahan when she was only 15 years old and died. Since then, her husband has been trying to build a monument that would be the most beautiful one ever constructed in history: an embodiment of love and devotion towards her memory.
The Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and it’s also one of India’s most visited monuments. To commemorate her death, Shah Jahan decided that they should build something beautiful so he could share it with everyone else who loved her just like he did!
The project employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by an architect, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. The mausoleum was built on the banks of the Yamuna River and it took 22 years to complete it.

The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, a list compiled by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The entire complex covers an area of 42 acres (17 ha) and consists of two parts: The Tomb itself stands on an octagonal platform raised 30 feet above street level; it contains a mosque built around it with galleries around each side where people can walk back and forth between them during prayers.
