  • Zubairuddin Gorgan Tomb: Mirza Zubairuddin Bahadur Gorgan, the eldest grandson of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II, was laid to rest in the south-western corner of Dighi Tank, a large water body located in the city of Darbhanga. He passed away in the year 1905 while residing in Darbhanga. Despite being a lesser-known historical figure, Mirza Zubairuddin Bahadur Gorgan’s burial site holds significance as it is a testament to the illustrious Mughal dynasty’s legacy and its influence in the region.

The monument has numerous sites within the larger compound such as Nargona Palace and Rambagh Palace. The fort, palaces, and many other buildings and temples constructed by the Darbhanga Raj family are major tourist attractions of the region.

The Shyama temple is one of the most important religious sites in the district. Shyamakali Temple is a Shiva temple located about 5 km away on the Darbhanga-Biraul Pucca road. The Shyama Kali Temple has six temples built around the central pond, which is believed to be made with funeral ashes from Darbhanga Maharajas (rumoured to consist of the waters from 7 rivers). There are various historic sites in the region which attract tourists from around the world and are popular holiday destinations for the Biharis.

Nawadah Durga Sthan, Ahilya Sthan, Manokamna Temple, Shyama Temple, Chhaprar, Newari, Raghopur, Brahmpur, Chandradhari Museum and Maharaja Laxmiswar Singh Museum are some of the popular tourist spots in the district. Even today, a few of the Raj family’s members still live within the confines of the temple premises, but none of the glamour and splendour from eras has gone by.
