Dogra Food Mall Delight: A Culinary Adventure

90/ 100

A Breakfast Odyssey at Dogra Food Mall on the Mumbai-Agra Highway

The crisp morning air of February 10th, 2024, filled our lungs with excitement as three friends embarked on a road trip from Mumbai to Jalgaon. Our rumbling stomachs, however, demanded a pit stop before conquering the Kasara ghat. Dogra Food Mall, a familiar beacon on the Mumbai-Nashik-Agra highway, beckoned us with the promise of a delicious breakfast.

Vegetarian Foods Only

As we arrived at the spacious restaurant, its inviting aura welcomed us. Situated approximately 120 km from Mumbai and 90 km from Thane on the Mumbai-Nashik-Agra Highway, this eatery boasted not only ample parking space but also pristine washrooms—a rarity on long drives. The spacious interiors, and lush green environment surrounded by hills offer a comfortable respite for weary travellers. The restaurant serves vegetarian foods only. They are known for their South Indian specialities.

Excited to indulge our taste buds, we eagerly perused the menu. Despite being a pure vegetarian restaurant, Dogra Food Mall offers a tantalizing array of dishes, with a speciality in South Indian cuisine. Fuelled by past experiences of culinary delight at Dogra’s, I ventured into unfamiliar territory and ordered an Aloo Paratha, a North Indian classic. To my dismay, the paratha arrived cold and slightly burnt, a stark contrast to the vibrant flavours I had anticipated. My friends, ever the playful companions, couldn’t resist a good-natured jibe. They couldn’t resist teasing me, jesting that I had made a rookie mistake by ordering North Indian cuisine in a restaurant renowned for its South Indian delicacies.

However, redemption arrived in the form of their signature Batata Wada and Missal Pav. The fluffy wadas, perfectly balanced with the spicy chutney, and the flavourful Missal Pav, a Maharashtrian delicacy, were a symphony of textures and tastes. The accompanying tea, though average, did little to dampen our spirits.

Final Thoughts

While my North Indian escapade wasn’t Dogra’s finest moment, their true magic lies in the vibrant flavours of Maharashtra and South India. Despite the initial disappointment with the paratha, Dogra Food Mall’s charm remained undimmed. The scenic location, coupled with the friendly service and delectable South Indian and Maharashtrian fare, makes it an ideal stopover for families and friends seeking a delightful break amidst nature’s embrace. While this particular visit may not have lived up to all our expectations, it serves as a reminder that even the most trusted restaurants can have occasional off days.
