A Feast for the Senses: My Night at Persian Darbar Kurla with Friends
Let’s face it, Mumbai is a foodie’s paradise. You throw a rock, and you’re bound to hit a delicious restaurant serving up something incredible. But sometimes, you crave a specific kind of experience – an evening that goes beyond just good food. That’s exactly what I had in mind when I suggested a trip to Persian Darbar in Kurla to my friends. Now, for those unfamiliar, Persian Darbar Kurla is a well-known name in the city, specializing in Mughlai cuisine. It promises a taste of the royal courts of Persia, and let me tell you, it delivers!
We decided to go on a Friday night, knowing it would be bustling. Stepping into the restaurant was like entering a different world. The air hung heavy with the aroma of spices, instantly whetting our appetites. The decor was opulent, with intricate tapestries, Persian-style interiors, plush seating, and warm lighting that created a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere.
Our friendly waiter patiently navigated us through the menu. It was a delightful explosion of Mughlai delights – kebabs, biryanis, curries, with a wide array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. We, being a diverse group with varying dietary preferences, were spoilt for choice.
After much deliberation (and drooling), we decided to go all out and have a proper feast. Here’s a glimpse of the culinary journey we embarked on:
Starters
- Murgh Malai Tikka: Succulent chicken pieces marinated in creamy yoghurt and spices, grilled to perfection. The melt-in-your-mouth texture and burst of flavours were simply divine.
- Dahi Kebab: A vegetarian delight, this kebab is comprised of lentil dumplings stuffed with creamy yoghurt and flavorful spices. It was a refreshing change of pace from the usual kebabs and a testament to the restaurant’s mastery of vegetarian options.
Mains
- Mutton Rogan Josh:This classic Mughlai dish featuring tender mutton pieces cooked in a rich, aromatic gravy was an absolute showstopper. The use of spices was phenomenal, creating a complex flavour profile that kept us wanting more.
- Mutton Raan Biryani:You can’t visit a Mughlai restaurant like Persian Darbar Kurla, without trying their biryani, right? We opted for the chicken version, and it did not disappoint. The rice was perfectly cooked, infused with saffron and spices, and the chicken pieces were delightfully tender and flavourful.
- Dal Tadka:A comforting lentil dish, this was the perfect accompaniment to the richer gravies. It balanced the flavours beautifully and provided a satisfying heartiness to the meal.
Sides and Drinks
We shared a basket of assorted breads to mop up the delicious curries. To quench our thirst, we tried a soft drink.
Dessert
No Indian meal is complete without dessert, so we finished off the night by indulging in some decadent treats. We decided to have Falooda from yet another renowned restaurant “Shalimar”.
Beyond the Food
While the food was undoubtedly the star of the show, it wasn’t the only thing that impressed us. The service at Persian Darbar Kurla was exceptional. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and always available to answer our questions and provide recommendations. The entire staff of Persian Darbar Kurla displayed a genuine warmth and professionalism that added to the overall dining experience.
The Verdict
Our night at Persian Darbar Kurla was more than just a meal; it was an experience. The opulent setting, the incredible food, and the impeccable service all came together to create a truly memorable evening. Whether you’re a die-hard Mughlai fan or simply looking for a special night out with friends, I highly recommend checking out Persian Darbar in Kurla. It’s a place that will tantalize your taste buds and transport you to a different era, all in the heart of Mumbai.
